Almost three weeks of glorious P90X workouts have already gone by. The fourth week is sort of a recovery week; there’s less emphasis on muscle building and a greater emphasis on total body workout. I’m not looking forward to it; this coming week will include two yoga sessions. Why did it have to be yoga that would repeat twice in one week? Couldn’t it have been any other workout? Really, any other workout at all would have been preferable.

20 days in, starting to see the abs

20 days in, starting to see the abs

After 20 days, I’m starting to see more definition in my abdominals, just enough that you can finally see my abs on camera. In person, they look better. Why is that? What does the camera do to obscure the abs? And what do photographers do to make the abs pop in all those men’s magazines? I’m sure my bathroom doesn’t exactly provide the same lighting a professional photographer does, and my cheap-o automatic camera doesn’t compare to a high-price model, but still, it doesn’t seem fair.

My camera complaints aside, how am I doing almost three weeks in? Pretty good. I can’t lie. I’m daydreaming about cookies and brownies a lot. These workouts are tough. You burn A LOT of calories. And you crave A LOT of carbs, which you cannot have. You’re only allotted a small percentage of carbs in your phase one diet. As a result, your mind surfs its memory banks for all those delicious, not-so-good-for-you treats that are packed with TONS of carbohydrates: cookies, breads, pizzas, cake, brownies, cereals. I’m salivating just thinking about it. But I just remind myself: this is temporary. I can do anything for 90 days. And after the 90 days, if I’m looking amazing and feeling fitter than ever, I’ll probably be less inclined to gorge myself on a brownie sundae.

20 days down. 70 days to go.
